Westsound Haven - Orcas Island

A 1+ bedroom retreat for an avid sailor. Overlooking their moorage, this project is designed to be a quick refuge and relaxing observation post. The low eave frames the view down the sound and protects from seasonal wind-driven rains; the high side orients views upwards to the mountain behind. A crow’s nest is perched above for sunset views and doubles as guest accommodations.

On the interior the post and beam framing is aligned with the view towards the horizon. The large overhangs are articulated by a second layer of roof framing, visible from the exterior. Above these two layers of framing, the roof appears as a thin diaphragm of timber decking.
